Adult Training
We are part of the largest uniformed, volunteer organization in the world-- the Boy Scouts. Scouting is a team effort: Scouts, parents, and adult leaders. The goal of Troop 903 is to provide an environment in which the Scout can become physically strong, mentally alert, and morally straight. With parental assistance, the troop can make this goal a reality at the same time the Scout is having fun. This Information has been prepared to acquaint you with Scouting and to provide a ready reference to the “normal” operating procedures of Troop 903. Regular troop meetings are held on Thursday evenings from 6:45 PM to 8:30 PM at Huntingtown United Methodist Church. Scouts are to be in Class A uniform for each troop meeting. They need to bring their scout handbook, a pencil or pen, and weekly dues ($.50). When Calvert County Public Schools are closed or have canceled after school and evening activities, it is the policy of the Troop leadershp to cancel Troop 903 troop meetings. |

Mission of Troop 903The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. The mission of Troop 903 is to provide the proper guidance so a Scout may attain this goal through performance of his duty to God, to his country, to others, and to himself. The troop provides an environment in which the boy can also learn to accept responsibilities, share in tasks through teamwork, respect law and order, have the opportunity for wholesome associations of friends, and develop the companionship of people of character.Through the activities of Troop 903, the program of the Boy Scouts of America provides for boy's leadership, training, and other learning opportunities while having fun. We have a large troop with broad interests and developmental needs so each year we develop a three tiered program. We focus on: 1. Basic Scout Skills (mainly young Scouts), 2. Rank Advancement (all Scouts), and 3. High Adventure (older Scouts). Our troop is adult managed but Boy led. Our objectives are accomplished in the spirit of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They exert a lasting influence in the life of a Scout outside of, but hand-in-hand with, his family. |

Troop MembershipMembership in Boy Scouts is open to boys who are 11 through 17 years old, or who have earned the Arrow of Light Award, and have completed the fifth grade. Boys of Scouting age have many and varied interests which are constantly changing. If for any reason a Scout decides to leave Scouting, or is moving to another area, the boy is required to notify the Scoutmaster so that records may be updated and transferred, if necessary, to the receiving troop. This notification is part of the process by which a Scout learns to accept responsibility. (Of course, if situations change a scout is always welcome to return) |
Parental SupportIt is the responsibility of the Troop 903 parents to ensure that our sons are living in a physical and moral environment conductive to their proper development. Together, we must provide the opportunity and guidance necessary for them to develop and learn their duty to God, to country, and to others. There is no better environment than Scouting to promote that development.
